Onalaska ISD’s ROTC students adopted FM 3459 in Polk County as part of their commitment to keep Wildcat Country clean.
Through TxDOT’s Adopt-a-Highway program, the ROTC cadets and volunteers take responsibility for a stretch of FM 3459, showing up on cleanup days to collect roadside debris. The district posts safety notices asking drivers to slow down when the crew is working the shoulder.
The effort is led by 1ST Garcia, whose cadets treat the highway the same way they treat everything else in the ROTC program: as a responsibility to their community, not a favor.
Onalaska ISD calls its community Wildcat Country. FM 3459 is a little cleaner for it..
