Willis residents are under a boil water notice after a major water line break in the city Wednesday, and Willis ISD campuses will receive bottled water Thursday until the notice is lifted. Willis Mayor William Brown said in an 8 p.m. update that Public Works crews were still repairing the break and working to restore service, with no firm time for the water to come back on.
Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough said he directed the county’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management to activate resources so bottled water reaches affected campuses for Thursday classes. Willis ISD students may use and flush toilets but should not drink from campus water fountains while the notice is in effect, Brown said. Bottled water will be available for students at school.
City and county officials are planning a bottled water distribution point for Willis residents Thursday afternoon. The exact time and location were still being finalized Wednesday night. The notice stays active until the water system is tested and cleared.
