Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard said Wednesday that four young men were arrested on first-degree felony organized crime charges after a long-running Buna feud ended with an aggravated assault in late August.
In an Oct. 7 release, Havard identified those arrested as Phillip Dickerson, 18, of Pineland; Brayden Mahathay, 20, of Evadale; Braden Terry, 18, of Kirbyville; and Garret Warner, 18, of Buna. Each is charged with Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity with Use or Exhibit of a Deadly Weapon, a first-degree felony, and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a second-degree felony.
Havard said sheriff’s investigators worked with the Newton Police Department, Pineland Police Department and the Sabine County Sheriff’s Office to serve the warrants. The incident the charges stem from was reported in late August, the sheriff said; the arrests close out that case.
For families around Buna, Evadale, Kirbyville and Pineland, this one is close to home: four high school and college-aged defendants are now in custody facing felony charges that carry five to 99 years, or life, on the first-degree count under Texas law. Bond information was not released.
