Conroe ISD trustees on Thursday, Oct. 8, reviewed where the district’s $1.97 billion 2023 bond program stands two years after voters approved it, with eight new campuses and districtwide infrastructure work in the mix.
Chief Financial Officer Karen Garza and the district’s financial advisor, John Robuck, told the board that $1.64 billion of the bond has been issued and $332.88 million remains unissued. All of the remaining authorized funding breaks down to about $5 million for Grand Oaks Junior High and ninth-grade campus, $70.87 million for end-of-life infrastructure upgrades, and $31 million for new gyms at Anderson, Glen Loch, Houser and Ride.
Garza told trustees Conroe ISD has $463 million in cash on hand set aside for construction, which combined with the unissued bond money gives the district $795.88 million to finish the program. She said the district has already committed $323 million in purchase orders to vendors and contractors, with an estimated $407.16 million still to go to complete the 2023 bond projects.
Except for Washington High School, Garza said, the remaining projects are on pace to be complete by December 2027. Trustees did not take a vote on the item; the briefing was a status update under the regular meeting agenda.
