According to the sheriff’s office, investigators first picked up Jones’ name while reviewing drugs and weapons recovered at a Sept. 20 Kirbyville scene. Two of the three firearms from that scene turned out to be stolen. A follow-up investigation revealed roughly 20 to 30 firearms missing from the victim’s residence, with Jones identified as the person who sold one of them on Sept. 2.
A warrant was issued Oct. 1 and served the same day at the Kirbyville Sub-Courthouse. Jones is charged with theft of a firearm, a state jail felony. As of this report, 13 of the reported stolen guns have been recovered, the sheriff’s office said. The case is still open and more arrests or charges are possible.
