The Lufkin City Council voted 7-0 on Tuesday to deny a zone change request for a lot at 1609 Sunrise Avenue, keeping the property under its existing designation.
In the same meeting, council members recognized the promotions of three Lufkin firefighters and one police captain. Promotion recognitions are a standing part of council business and give residents a look at who is moving up in the city’s public safety ranks.
Zone change requests come before the council regularly and affect what can be built or operated on a given lot, so property owners and neighbors in the surrounding blocks are the ones most directly touched by the outcome.
