Lufkin moves to become a Texas film-friendly town

The Lufkin film-friendly town application is moving forward after city leaders indicated they will adopt an ordinance that allows Lufkin to formally apply for the Texas Film Commission designation.

The film-friendly program, run by the Texas Film Commission, certifies cities that have adopted local permitting rules and a designated point of contact for film, television and commercial production crews. Certification helps cities attract on-location production work by making it easier for scouts and producers to plan shoots in the community.

City officials say the certification could open the door to additional filming activity in Angelina County, along with the visitor spending and short-term hiring that comes with a production stopping in town.
