POLK COUNTY ARREST | CHARGES, NOT CONVICTIONS

Roy Earl Grant of Livingston, a Republican candidate for Polk County judge earlier this year, was arrested Monday by the Texas Highway Patrol on charges of assault on a peace officer, unlawful carrying of a weapon, and resisting arrest, search or transport, according to Polk County Jail records.
The records list the offense date as Sept. 21. Grant was booked into the Polk County Jail at 12:47 a.m. Sept. 22 and released on surety bonds at 3:08 p.m. the same day. Bond was set at $30,000 on the assault charge and $3,000 each on the weapon and resisting arrest charges. The Texas Department of Public Safety is listed as the charging agency.
The jail record does not describe the circumstances of the arrest.
Grant ran in the March 3 Republican primary for county judge, finishing third with 1,034 votes. During the campaign, he spoke out against the cost of the Polk County Courthouse restoration.
An arrest is not a conviction. Charges are accusations, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
