A Nacogdoches County burn ban is now in effect after commissioners voted to prohibit outdoor burning in response to worsening dry conditions and no rain in the forecast.
The order runs for 90 days unless commissioners lift it sooner. Container cooking is still allowed in unincorporated areas of the county. Officials pointed to temperatures in the upper 90s to 100 degrees over the next week and a high fire-danger index reading as reasons for the ban.
Nacogdoches is one of well over 100 Texas counties under a burn ban. Neighboring Shelby, Angelina, Rusk and Cherokee counties are also restricting outdoor burning.
