The Trinity County budget for 2027 cleared a preliminary vote this week, with commissioners trimming funding across every county department to meet a Friday state filing deadline.
Commissioners met in special session to get the proposal on file by August 15. The across-the-board reductions reflect the squeeze small East Texas counties face when property values and state funding do not keep pace with fixed costs.
A preliminary budget is not final. Residents and business owners in Groveton, Trinity and the surrounding communities still have a window to weigh in before commissioners adopt a final version and set the tax rate.
Anyone who wants a say should watch the Commissioners Court agenda for the public hearing date.
