Lufkin Firefighters Free Trapped 18-Wheeler Driver After Highway Crash

A Lufkin 18-wheeler crash on Wednesday morning left a truck driver pinned inside a smashed cab until Lufkin Fire Department crews cut him free. The department’s Special Operations team handled the extraction at the scene.

According to investigators, a 1991 International truck tractor attempting to turn north at a cross-over failed to yield the right of way and was struck by a 2024 Freightliner. The impact crushed the cab of the first truck with the driver still inside.

Wrecks involving heavy trucks at highway cross-overs remain a recurring hazard on the roads around Angelina County, where log trucks and freight haulers share the same corridors as local traffic every day.
