The Deep East Texas burn ban region is now under a burn ban in every county as triple-digit heat and dry conditions grip the 936 area through the end of August. Forecast highs are above 100 degrees every day through Tuesday, Aug. 25, and no meaningful rain is expected.
Fire danger is rated very high to locally extreme across East Texas. Any outdoor spark, from welding or grinding to a hot exhaust in tall grass, can start a wildfire in these conditions.
Residents should hold off on all outdoor burning, avoid parking on dry grass, and check with their county before using fireworks or fire pits. Report any smoke or flames to 911 right away.
