Angelina College launches Electrical Lineworker Program for Deep East Texas

The Angelina College Lineworker Program is officially off the ground, with the first cohort of students already earning OSHA 10 and CPR certifications on the way to entry-level jobs across the Deep East Texas power grid.

The program was built with a Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board TRUE Grant and combines classroom work with hands-on field training in electrical theory, equipment operation and safety. Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs Esther Campbell said the grant let the college build a program that answers a real workforce shortage in the region.

Eight regional partners sit on the advisory committee: the cities of Newton and Jasper, plus Deep East Texas Electric Cooperative, Houston County Electric Cooperative, Jasper-Newton Electric Cooperative, Sam Houston Electric Cooperative, and Oncor. Program lead Aaron Smith can be reached at asmith@angelina.edu.
