Trinity County Sheriff Says Faith-Based Jail Program Is Changing Lives

A Trinity County jail faith program has produced nearly a dozen baptisms in the past year, and Sheriff Woody Wallace says the effort is helping inmates rebuild their lives from the inside. The program, led by Pastor Jeff Jones, runs Monday Bible study sessions inside the facility and has become part of Wallace’s broader jail reform push.

“Our goal is not to put people in jail,” Wallace said. “Our job is to keep people out of jail.” He pointed to the program as one of several resources aimed at reducing recidivism and giving people tools to make better decisions after release.

Multiple inmates said the program has reconnected them with family members and given them a stronger sense of purpose. Officials say they plan to keep expanding the ministry-based offerings alongside the sheriff’s other jail reform policies.
