Sixth Annual Suicide Awareness Candlelight Vigil Draws Survivors to Kiwanis Park in Lufkin

The Lufkin Suicide Awareness Candlelight Vigil returned Saturday evening for its sixth year at Kiwanis Park, giving survivors a place to honor loved ones lost and to hear from mental health advocates. Community organizations including the Burke Center and Sheep Dog Ministry set up resource tables for those in attendance.

Speakers focused on listening and compassion, with one mental health professional telling attendees that being present and being an advocate is something anyone can do. Survivors shared personal stories during the candle lighting.

Organizers said the vigil aims to keep suicide prevention resources visible to families across Angelina County year round.
