Two Arrested in June Crockett Shooting That Injured Four People

The Crockett Police Department says two Nacogdoches men have been arrested in connection with a June 13 shooting in Crockett that injured four people. Investigators say only one of the four victims was an intended target; the other three were bystanders.

Officers responded to the 1100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard around 10:20 p.m. on June 13, following reports of gunfire during a large gathering with a significant number of people and vehicles in the area, according to police. Some of the four gunshot victims are still in recovery.

Police identified the arrested men as Dakenyon D’wayne Davis, 26, and Lynndelverick Concepcion Malone, 21, both of Nacogdoches. According to CPD, Davis and Malone were part of a group from the San Augustine area that traveled to Crockett for the event, and detectives determined the San Augustine group had an existing dispute with a group from the Center area that was also present. Investigators say the San Augustine group fired toward the group from Center, striking three bystanders and one intended target.

Davis was first taken into custody on July 3 by the U.S. Marshals and the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office on unrelated warrants and is now being held at the San Augustine County Jail on three counts of aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon in connection with the Crockett shooting, police said. Malone was arrested by the Nacogdoches Police Department on September 24 on a San Augustine County warrant and is now charged with one count of aggravated assault in connection with the shooting. Detectives said they relied on interviews, ballistic evidence and investigative technology because only a limited number of witnesses came forward.
