A Conroe wrong-way crash on Interstate 45 killed a 59-year-old woman and injured the driver of a pickup truck early Sunday morning, according to the Conroe Police Department.
Conroe PD said dispatchers took the first call about a wrong-way driver at approximately 4:40 a.m. on October 25, 2026, with a dark-colored pickup reported going southbound in the northbound lanes of IH-45 near Gladstell. A follow-up call said the truck was traveling about 100 miles per hour. Two minutes later, dispatchers began receiving multiple calls about a major crash involving a pickup and a white SUV near the Highway 105 exit.
Officers, the Conroe Fire Department and EMS crews gave medical attention to both drivers. The SUV driver, 59-year-old Emelia Muniz, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The 20-year-old driver of the pickup was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition.
Preliminary findings indicate a dark blue Nissan Titan was traveling southbound in the northbound main lanes of the 1000 block of South IH-45 and collided head-on with a northbound Honda CRV, Conroe PD said. The Conroe Police Traffic Reconstruction Unit is investigating, with assistance from the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Vehicular Crimes Unit, including whether intoxication is a factor. No charges have been announced.
