The East Texas first day of school lands on Wednesday, August 12, with nearly 25 area districts welcoming students back for the 2026-27 year. Lufkin, Nacogdoches, Hudson, and Huntington are among the districts opening their doors that morning.
Drivers should expect heavier morning and afternoon traffic around campuses and slow down in school zones, which are back in effect. Buses will also be running their routes for the first time since spring.
