Polk County flooding and high winds from Tropical Storm Edouard left downed trees across roadways, damaged homes, and knocked out power to thousands of customers on Tuesday, according to reports from Livingston and surrounding communities.
Sheriff’s deputies and volunteer firefighters spent the day clearing trees, blocking off flooded stretches of FM roads, and checking on residents. County officials asked drivers to turn around at any high water rather than attempt to cross, warning that road surfaces beneath standing water may have washed out.
Residents needing shelter or storm assistance were directed to contact Polk County Emergency Management. Utility restoration was expected to continue into the weekend as crews reached the most damaged rural areas around Lake Livingston.
