Tropical Storm Edouard triggers water rescues across Deep East Texas

Tropical Storm Edouard slammed into Deep East Texas on Tuesday and Wednesday, prompting water rescues, closing roads, and knocking out power across the 936 area. National Weather Service gauges showed some communities picking up more than 20 inches of rain before the system weakened to a tropical depression over Lufkin.

Angelina, Nacogdoches, Polk, and Trinity counties all reported flooded roadways, and emergency crews worked overnight to reach stranded drivers and residents. Flood watches remained in effect Wednesday for several 936 counties as the slow-moving storm continued to wring rain out of an already saturated Piney Woods.

Local emergency management offices asked residents to stay off the roads, avoid crossing high water, and report damage through their county’s non-emergency line. Utility crews from Deep East Texas Electric Cooperative and Entergy Texas responded to widespread outages tied to downed trees and limbs.
