Governor Greg Abbott has directed state agencies to stop spending money on Flock license plate reader cameras, and his order specifically cites a Lufkin Flock cameras case involving a local police officer. The directive halts new state purchases and prohibits state funds from covering the systems.
The order does not force local governments to remove existing Flock installations, but it does put state-level dollars off the table. The Lufkin incident, which involved questions about data access by outside agencies, was named by the Governor’s Office as one reason for the freeze.
Local officials have not said whether Lufkin will change how it uses its existing Flock cameras. Residents with concerns about license plate readers in Angelina County can reach out to their city council members or the Lufkin Police Department.
