Jasper industry layoffs hit hard Tuesday as two employers announced pullbacks on the same day, costing the local economy more than 175 jobs.
L-P Corporation said it will curtail operations at its oriented strand board mill on U.S. Highway 190, one of the largest industrial employers in the Jasper area. A second industry announced job losses the same day, according to KJAS. The job cuts are set to begin in October.
The scale of the loss lands in a small county where a single mill closing can ripple through schools, retail, and county tax rolls. County and city leaders are expected to respond in coming days as workers weigh next steps.
