Angelina County Sheriff launches new underage drinking sting operations

An Angelina County underage drinking sting is coming to drive-thru daiquiri shops and other alcohol retailers, the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office announced this weekend. The department is using a new grant to fund the stings, which will use minors under supervision to test whether stores are selling to buyers younger than 21.

Sheriff’s officials said the operations target both underage drinkers and businesses that ignore state law on alcohol sales. Drive-thru daiquiri shops in and around Lufkin are on the list, alongside convenience stores and other package retailers across the county.

Stores caught selling to minors during the stings can face fines and Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission action against their permits. Investigators said results from the first round of stings will be released as citations are filed.
